I had the opportunity to have breakfast Friday morning with a group of Oil & Gas industry personnel at the annual 2012 HPI Forecast breakfast meeting hosted by Hydrocarbon Processing magazine. As usual, not that there are any complaints, it was held at Houston’s River Oaks Country club Friday morning. It was a nice incentive to contribute to Houston’s morning rush hour traffic. HP’s team of editors provides a consistently robust analysis of the projected spending in the Hydrocarbon Processing Industry, enabling the marketing teams of many companies to glean insightful strategies advancing their businesses.
Some good quotes from the conference were:
Joe Barnes – “..discussions of energy independence must also include price”
Technologies are continually changing the marketplace. Only a few years ago, the US was pursuing the development of offshore terminals to manage the import of inexpensive LNG produced in other areas of the world. Horizontal drilling and new fracking technologies are now enabling shale formations to produce such large volumes of gas that there are now considerations to export the gas to other markets. An additional implication of this lower cost shale gas is the expected boost to the US petrochemicals market as additional olefin plants are now planned to fuel this growth over the next decade. Unfortunately, any of this optimism must be tempered with the cautionary statement of concerns with the current instabilities of today’s geopolitical climate.
For now it is “make hay while the sun shines”.

In the words of the great philosopher James Buffet; “The weather is here, wish you were beautiful”.
Innovatia is attending the NPRA Q&A and Technology Forum at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas this week. The JW Marriott is truly a world class resort. I could mention the TPC golf courses, the lazy river, the pools and the breathtaking hill country architecture, but the best comment would be simply WOW.
The conference is well attended by a full spectrum of refining and technology companies. The comments during the keynote address from Tesoro highlighted the industry’s ongoing concerns with process safety and the concerns with knowledgeable workers leaving the industry.
Innovatia demonstrated Procedure Accelerator to the attendees on Monday and Tuesday. The comments on our demo thus far have been outstanding. The discussions we’re having reflect the current need for initiatives to provide operations procedures to newer operators as the more experienced personnel retire. A key trend is the continuing proliferation of PDAs (personal digital assistant) to support the collection of data for operator rounds and operator driven reliability. Discussions with several vendors after-hours highlighted the different perspectives on the issues and opportunities.
On deck tomorrow is the Texas Shootout, where key personnel from the leading process automation companies will be discussing turning data into information. It will be a lively session!

Welcome to Innovatia’s Procedure Accelerator™ Blog. Initially founded in the Canadian Telecommunications industry, Innovatia’s knowledge based solutions are now being developed and deployed in the process industries. Although applicable to many industries, our initial focus is the Hydrocarbon Processing Industry (HPI) where clients are now observing immediate results. Innovatia’s Procedure Accelerator™ software provides a single source framework for procedure development and deployment addressing the knowledge management components of our clients’ Operations Excellence initiatives. The knowledge management process, deployed through Procedure Accelerator™, provides a sustainable Operator Driven Reliability program for an industry’s transitioning work force managing hazardous processes.
Innovatia will be exhibiting at the 2011 NPRA Q&A and Technology Forum in San Antonio next week. I look forward to the discussions the forum prompts each year. If you are attending the forum, stop by the Innovatia table top exhibit to see a demonstration of Procedure Accelerator™. I’ll be blogging during the week in San Antonio and will share some of my observations from the forum. Let me hear from you if you if you have any comments or are fortunate enough to also be spending the week at the JW Marriott in San Antonio.
